Highlights from the Sports World of Ballston Spa

Fall Athlete Board of Education Recognition - 12/6/2023   

Varsity Swim - Sectionals Saturday 11/4 - The Varsity Girls Swim/Dive team had a great showing at Sectionals this past weekend, finishing 4th overall. Julia Mckinley placing 5th and 6th, Emily Krasniqi placing 8th and 10th, and Michelle Adams placing 6th and 10^th.  Scarlet Frankford, Alley Eisler, Reyna Racaza, Michelle Pickering, Kaylee Sliper, Maddy Delguercio, and Kate Sokolewicz all placed in consolation finals. 
8th grader Sarah Blaum led the way with capturing 2 sectional titles in the 50 free and 100 butterfly events.  This is the first time any Ballston Spa Swimmer has won 2 individual events at a sectional meet.  Sarah will compete in the NYS meet to be held next weekend in Webster NY.

Student-Athlete Highlights - The Scotties hosted Queensbury, earning a 1 - 0 win with McKenna Szmarz notching her first varsity goal. The play was assisted by Ayla Hathaway. Moments later it looked like Szmarz was going to make it 2-0 with a beautiful header off of Anna Zito's corner but the Spartans keeper, Shea Canavan, made an incredible reflex dive to her lower left to keep it a one point game. Canavan had 7 saves for the Spartans with 2 saves for Mari Lefco of the Scotties.
