    Pick a Reading Partner

The PARP program will kick off Monday, March 8th and will conclude on Friday, April 2nd. PARP is a celebration of the joy of reading together! The PARP program is designed to encourage children to read at home with their parents or caregivers for 20 minutes each day.

As part of our PARP program this year, we have the following exciting activities, events, incentives and announcements:

    • Our PTA purchased a book for all students. Our students in grades 3-5 will be given a copy of The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate and our K-2 students will receive a copy of Dinosaurs Before Dark, by Mary Pope Osborne
    • Mac Barnett, children’s author, will be visiting all classrooms, K-5, virtually as our visiting author on March 9th and 10th
    • Our second virtual book fair is scheduled for March 22nd-April 4th
    • A daily calendar filled with activities and challenges
    • Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes each night and complete the chart that was sent home. Each night that your child reads, he or she may add a sticker (or simply draw a smiley face) for the day that he or she read. Students will submit these charts to their teacher on Thursday, April 1st. All Malta Ave students will be entered into a drawing each week. Winners of the drawing have the opportunity to win various prizes including: Mac Barnett books, Stewart’s ice cream gift cards, and more
    • Optional: send Mrs. Johnson pictures of you and your child(ren) reading each night. We will post pictures on our Malta Avenue Twitter feed- @MaltaAveElem

  • Three tips to keep your Chromebook working properly:

    • Everyday, your child should click on the sign-out and shutdown buttons on the Chromebook. This is how apps update.
    • Weekly your child should click in the upper right hand corner, click on the three dots, scroll down to More Tools, Clear Browsing Data, and in the Time Range, click the drop down arrow and choose All time, Clear Data. **Best time to do so would be at the end of the school day.
    • If the Dashboard is not opening, click on the WSG button located in the top right corner and click sync . (You may have to click on the puzzle piece to see the WSG button)
