Ballston Spa Schools Receive Book Donation
Patty Kilgore, Director of School-Based Services from The Prevention Council recently presented the Ballston Spa elementary schools with books specifically addressing the topic of addiction. The donation includes resources that may be shared with children and the adults in their lives.
As a partner with Saratoga County, the Prevention Council received resources from the Opioid Settlement Funds and were asked to find the best use of these monies that will also have the biggest impact for county residents. One area highlighted was a lack of resources for children in elementary schools who may have a parent, guardian, sibling or other loved one struggling with a substance-use disorder or in early recovery. Children are frequently overlooked as a family struggles with a loved one’s use of substances.
School counselors work with children in a variety of circumstances and believe having the best resources available makes a huge difference. The Prevention Council put together the donation of several children’s books that address the issue of addiction as well as resources for counselors and the adults in their lives. They are currently distributing the books to all elementary schools in Saratoga County.
