  • What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive Technology can be any item, piece of equipment, or system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is commonly used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.

Who can benefit from using Assistive Technology?

Assistive technology (AT) is available to help individuals with many types of disabilities — from cognitive problems to physical impairment.  AT compensates for a student's skills deficits or area(s) of disability.

Using Assistive Technology can increase an individuals self-reliance and sense of independence. Students who struggle in school are often overly dependent on parents, siblings, friends and teachers for help with assignments. By using Assistive Technology, these children can experience success with working independently.
